How can I get the right diagnosis and treatment for possibly bad thyroid levels?

I had a R thyroid removal about 2 years ago. I am on Levoxyl 88 currently. I also take daily supplements of Vitamin D (either 5000 IU's in Fall/Winter and 2000 IU's in Spring/Summer). I cannot tell you exactly what my thyroid levels are at this time, but I had to go to my family doctor at least 3 times to get her to prescribe thyroid meds, as she said I was within "the normal range". I have been on these meds for about 1.5 years. It was very difficult to get the meds in the first place and twice as hard to get her to increase the dosage. Anyway, I think I could benefit greatly from another opinion and would like to see if this is something you can help me with?

Answer

Having the thyroid level adjusted to the blood test normal range is like taking any shoe size between size 5 and 13 (which is the normal range for shoe sizes based on the same way they pick normal ranges for blood tests: IE 2 standard deviations), and expecting any shoe in the normal range size to fit. Basically, though, you're not going to get your Dr. to change their mind. Although I would be happy to do a consultation with you and can help to adjust the thyroid dose, my consultations are for 2 to 4 hours long and probably much more than you need. If you don't have chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia, then I would simply begin with a physician from ABIHM, which has over 1500 board certified holistic physicians who know to adjust the thyroid dose to the person instead of only to the blood tests. Hope this is helpful. Love and blessings, Dr. T
