Is the goal of sleep to wake up feeling refreshed?
Hi Dr. For 13 years I have woke up feeling like a truck has hit me even though I "sleep" through the night, and nap every afternoon. Two months ago, I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. I have been using a CPAP machine and notice no difference in how I feel upon wakening. My question is, how much sleep medication should start to use? Is the goal to wake up feeling refreshed? Should this happen instantly or with it take some time?
Answer
The goal is to wake up feeling refreshed, but when adding sleep medications in a person with sleep apnea, the effect of the medication on the CPAP pressures may need to be taken into account as well. In addition, treating the rest of the S.H.I.N.E. protocol, including hormonal support, infections, nutritional support, and exercise are also very important in addition to treating the sleep.
