Am I taking too much magnesium?
Hi Dr. Teitelbaum, I have moderate to severe symptoms of chronic fatigue, and- not having health insurance- I decided to take it on my own to follow your protocols. Among other supplements, I started with the Energy Revitalization System, with GNC Potassium- Magnesium aspartate, and with a malic acid-magnesium. When i combine just these three items and take them in the recommended doses I am ending up taking between 1400 - 1700 mg of magnesium per day In fact, you are recommending 2000 - 3000 mg of GNC potassium magnesium per day- which amounts to 1000-1500 mg magnesium just in this one supplement). I read, however, that adults should take up to 400 mg per day, and more than that could be toxic as the kidneys cannot process the magnesium. Now I stopped everything- except for the Revitalization System- and hope that you can guide me on this...I would much appreciate your advice! Thank you!
Answer
I would go with the energy revitalization system, and the GNC potassium, magnesium aspartate. As long as your kidney function is okay, you will not be getting too much magnesium from these. L&B, Dr. T
