Multivitamin Nutrients

The American diet loses nearly half of its vitamins and minerals because of food processing, which is why so many people today ironically suffer from both obesity and undernourishment.

Food processing results in 18% of our calories coming from added sugar and sweeteners. That's 140 pounds of sugar for most people every year! It adds another 18% in white flour, which has practically no nutritional value.

So it's common sense that we should all be taking daily multivitamins. Now, new studies also show potentially extraordinary benefits in enhancing immunity and even keeping your mind sharp.

Enhanced Immunity in Those with Tumors

Colorectal cancer is the third most common form of cancer worldwide. In a follow-up study of 2,424 people who had colorectal cancer, 45% reported regularly using multivitamins. Over an 11 year period, those in this group who took a moderate dose of multivitamins (9 or fewer tablets per week, with 3-5 the average) were associated with a 45% lower risk for cancer-related mortality.

Notably, those who took very high doses (10 or more tablets per week) were associated with a 60% higher risk for cancer-related mortality. So the key here is don't over do it.

Helps Keep Your Brain Sharp

A Harvard Cosmos meta-analysis study indicates that long-term daily use of multivitamins significantly reduces decline in both global cognition and episodic memory.

The Takeaway?

We can add two more arguments to the numerous other published research that reinforce the familiar saying (allowing me a bit of liberty with the exact wording): "A multivitamin a day keeps the doctor away!"
